PTE Academic is a computer-based English test that many Nepali students choose because it is fast, fair, and AI-scored. But "AI-scored" also means the computer is looking for very specific things: clear pronunciation, good grammar, and steady fluency. The good news? With the right strategy, most students can reach their target score on the first attempt.
1️⃣ Understand the format before you book
PTE has three parts: Speaking & Writing (54-67 minutes), Reading (29-30 minutes), and Listening (30-43 minutes). Every task type, such as Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Summarize Written Text, and Fill in the Blanks, has its own trick. Do not book the exam until you have practiced every task type at least once.
2️⃣ Focus on fluency over accent
In the speaking section, the computer does not care about your accent. It cares about how clearly and smoothly you speak. Stop worrying about sounding British or American. Speak naturally, keep a steady pace, and never leave long pauses, because silence hurts your fluency score more than small grammar mistakes.
3️⃣ Take the mock test seriously
A full mock test tells you exactly where you are losing marks before the real exam. At AIC, we use mock tests that mirror the real PTE interface, so nothing surprises you on exam day. Review every mistake, and most students improve their score quickly by fixing two or three repeated errors.
4️⃣ Manage your time inside the test
The clock is always running. For Reading and Listening, if you are stuck on a question, mark it and move on. A guess beats a blank answer. In Speaking, always speak for the full recording time; even if you are unsure, keep talking.
5️⃣ Practice daily, not weekly
Fifteen to twenty minutes every day beats three hours every Sunday. Daily practice builds the stamina and reflex you need, especially for Describe Image and Retell Lecture, where you have only a few seconds to think before you speak.
6️⃣ Get expert feedback
The biggest mistake students make is practising alone. A trained instructor can hear the exact issue in your pronunciation or grammar that a computer will penalize. Our PTE classes include weekly speaking evaluations and personalized feedback, so you always know what to improve next.
